Purpose

The purpose of the food handlers card training program is to prepare food handlers to enter the workforce by providing the required food safety information as specified by regulations of the workers’ state or local government.


Learning Objective

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify how to keep the hands, body and attire clean to protect food and food-contact surfaces from contamination.

  • Recognize populations that are highly susceptible to foodborne illness and symptoms and illnesses that must be reported to a manager.

  • Identify time and temperature control methods and requirements to prevent bacterial growth in food.

  • Identify processes and procedures necessary for maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.

Do I need a food handlers card?
If you are a food handler in Colorado, it is recommended that you complete a food safety course that is approved for use in your county. Completing an approved food safety course will award you with a Colorado Food Handlers Card. A food handler is someone who handles, prepares, serves, sells, or gives away food for human consumption.
Is this food handler training and test approved for my area?
This program that includes a training and test is approved for use throughout Colorado, except in areas with their own requirement.
When do I need to get my Colorado Food Handlers Card?
This course is highly recommended, but optional.

How long is my Food Handlers Card valid for?
Your food handlers card will be valid for 2 years.
How do I renew my Food Handlers Card?
If your card has expired, you will need to purchase and retake the Colorado Food Handlers Card training and test. If you need to reprint your current card, log in and go to the Certificates section. From there, you can click View and print your card.
