FAQs

Do I need to take the Massachusetts Food Allergy Awareness Course?

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) requires all staff and managers employed by a food establishment to complete food allergen safety training.

What does the program entail?

The program instructs food handlers, supervisors and other employees to recognize common allergies, as specified by the 2022 FDA Food Code, and prevent adverse reactions.

The course material is presented in an easy-to-follow video format that can be paused and revisited at your leisure. Following the video, participants will take an ANAB-accredited exam to test their knowledge and understanding of the material. Students will have two attempts to pass the test with a score of 70% or higher.

How much time do I have to complete the training?

Food employees, servers and managers must complete a state-accepted food allergen awareness course within 30 days of being hired.

Is the StateFoodSafety Food Allergen Safety Training approved for my area?

Yes, our course is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and accepted by the MDPH for food industry employees throughout Massachusetts.

What do I receive upon course completion?

After completing the course material and passing the final exam, you will receive a state-recognized Food Allergen Awareness Training Certificate.

What is a Food Allergen Awareness Training Certificate?

The certificate verifies that you have completed a food allergen training course accepted by the MDPH. It demonstrates your understanding of the basics of food allergies, including how to prevent allergic reactions.

After passing the exam, you can immediately download and print your certificate, which includes the ANAB logo. All Massachusetts food employees must keep their certificate on hand to prove they completed the training

How long is my certificate valid for?

Certifications are valid for five years from the date of course completion. You will need to retake the training course to renew your certificate.

How much time do I have access to the training materials?

Once you purchase the course, you can access all course materials for one year. During this time, you can rewatch lesson videos, refresh your knowledge and reprint your certificate.
