AboveTraining Inc / StateFoodSafety.com has been heavily involved with the crafting of SB 303, currently in the California Assembly. The bill was a response to SB 602, authored by Senator Alex Padilla (D), and signed by Governor Schwarzenegger last fall. SB 602 was met with stiff resistance as it mandated a directive that was nearly impossible to implement. It also deprived the California public from receiving the highest quality online training options at the most affordable prices. Sponsored by the California Restaurant Association, the bill eliminated any competition from providers other than the restaurant association. Because this impacts pricing, quality, and fair competition, a special task force was created to improve SB 602. StateFoodSafety.com has been heavily involved in this task force.
SB 303, which has passed the Senate and is currently in the Assembly, requires all California food handlers to receive a food handler card through training and testing by July 1, 2011. It mandates that Food handler training be available online and must be accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a certificate program through ASTM 2659. AboveTraining Inc / StateFoodSafety.com has received this accreditation as of June 28, 2011, and is the first food handler training organization to receive this distinction. This rigorous accreditation process ensures food handlers will receive the highest quality training.
